What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the most availed surgical procedure in current times. So what is liposuction?

It is a surgical procedure which contours specific areas of patients where they have undesirable fat accumulation and hence it is a body shaping surgery.

What are common areas of fat accumulation where liposuction can be done?

Calves, chest, neck, upper arms, waist, hips, back, thighs, flank, buttocks and abdomen are the areas where in liposuction is done commonly.

Though a number of fat cells remain the same, fat distribution patterns are different in different human beings. It depends on ages, race and even gender. Women have a higher percentage of body fat than men in comparison and areas of fat accumulation in women are upper thighs, buttocks, hips. In men accumulation of fat is more in a trunk.

These fat accumulations are stubborn and exercise, diet have little impact on them. Liposuction is effective in changing contour by removing fat cells which have got distributed unevenly.

Does Liposuction work on Intra-Abdominal fat?

Intra-Abdominal fat gets accumulated as one age. Liposuction cannot treat intra-abdominal fat. Diet and Exercises can resolve that. We recommend going for a good diet plan along with exercise to deal with Intra-Abdominal fat. But whichever exercise you choose, ensure your doctor is kept in the loop for that.

Is weight loss possible by liposuction?

Liposuction is a body shaping surgery, it is not a weight loss surgery. But when fat is removed, obviously some weight loss shall occur but it is side product and not the main outcome. Fundamentally Liposuction is for removing unevenly distributed fat, such that body shapes.

Does loose skin gets tightened because of liposuction?

Yes, it can. Post liposuction, as healing occurs, scar layer gets formed which helps in tightening different areas of skin relative to each other. Scarring responsible occurs at a lowermost portion of a thick part of skins and hence cannot be seen.

Is liposuction long-lasting, or permanent?

Essentially yes. Body’s tendency to store fat in old areas goes, where in liposuction has been done. However your body can find new areas to accumulate fats, hence once liposuction is done, it does not mean it shall keep you from gaining weight. As we have already specified that it is not a weight reduction surgery.
